The routes

You can explore information of our walking tracks within the book of Linda Out «On Foot",Fagotto editions. The author details 30 courses within the island, which is known for its great variety and changing landscape. Our routes follow those within the guidelines of this book, however we have also uncovered many other pathways through our experienced discovery of Lefkada. We try, whenever possible, to avoid the tarmac roads and will end our program with a pleasant hike to the cafes within the villages. The program is put together by our team and we will adapt to the changing weather conditions and the walking ability of each team.

Here we briefly outline three routes.

Διαδρομή Κολυβάτα

KOLYVATA – SKAROS FOREST - KOLYVATA

(14 km – 4 ½ hrs)

A lovely route is found through the unique oak forest of Mount Skaros. The entire route is on trail and gravel roads. We start from the village Kolyvata and climb to the monastery of St. George, founded in 1611.

We continue our ascent by following an old impressive trail to the top of the mountain, dominated by rare oaks, of Skaros. We continue on a gravel road and after a few minutes, we discover the magnificent view of Nidri, the islands’ reward for our labour. We can then continue on to the broadcast tower, from where the view is even more impressive. We continue on the gravel road, descending to the monastery of the Red Church, dating from the early 17th century. From here we continue on a stunning path through the forest, with trees forming a dome over our heads, leading us back to the start.

Διαδρομή Κολυβάτα

KARYA - REKATSINATA- KARYA

(5.1 km – 2 hrs)

A path found at the center ofthe island. Unfortunately a large part of it has been paved. We start from the mountainous village of Karya and ascend, leaving behind the last houses of the village.

The route offers us wonderful views over the plain of Karya, the surrounding villages scattered on the hills, the city of Lefkada and the coast of Epirus. With a detour, only taking a few minutes, we can enjoy the view to the east coast of Lefkada, islands and Acarnanian ridges. We continue to the church of St. Constantine, a great place to stop for a rest. Then, following an old path, we reach the abandoned villageRekatsinata and descend to Karya. In the famous square of the village, under plane trees we will enjoy our coffee.

Διαδρομή Κολυβάτα

EGLOUVI - AGIOS DONATOS - EGLOUVI

( 6.1 km. -2 ½ hrs)

A path in the mountainous Lefkada. One part of this is made of concreted roads. We start from the square of Eglouvi and climb through old paths to the plateau of St. Donatos.

We cross many vineyards, the resulting toil of previous generations who took advantage of every inch of the ground that could be cultivated. On top of the plateau lies the church of St. Donatos and the remnants of a bygone era, here the famous Eglouvi lentils are cultivated and the whole village lived here during the harvest season: stone houses, windmills, threshing floors. We then follow the concreted paths until we meet the trail to descend back to Englouvi. We will cross a unique landscape: barren, sandy and between the peaks of the mountains. From here we are gifted with the view of the sea and Englouvi that accompany us all the way back..

How to participate

We arrange walks throughout the year except for in July and August.

We offer a total package in April, May, June, September and October that includes walks, accommodation and meals. Access to Lefkada is difficult in the winter months (November – March). The only access is through a road from Igoumenitsa (boat from Italy) or flying from Athens. Accommodation and catering possibilities are also limited. Upon request we can plan a weekly program to suit your needs.

Our excursions begin from the village of AgiosNikitas, and we travel by car to the starting point. The duration of hiking can take from 2 to 5 hours. Where possible we like to avoid any tarmac roads and will follow walking paths. If possible, at the end of our travels we will stop for coffee in a village, and we will ride back to AgiosNikitas. Our program is flexible and we are able to change this according to your specific needs.

We plan walks every two days, so you can visit the famous beaches on our island. Of course this can be changed according to your choice.
